How to start a forex brokerage: the technology stack

A new forex brokerage needs a trading platform, liquidity, a client portal, a CRM and back office, payments and KYC, all connected. This page explains each layer for founders planning a launch. XFIV builds the software layers on top of MT5. It does not provide licences, liquidity or regulatory services.

Technology is one part of starting a brokerage

Starting a forex brokerage involves three tracks that run in parallel: regulation and legal structure, banking and liquidity relationships, and technology. Founders often start with technology because it is the most visible, but the other two usually decide the timeline.

This page covers the technology track only. For licensing, company structure and regulatory obligations, work with qualified legal and compliance advisers in the jurisdictions you plan to serve. Nothing here is legal or regulatory advice.

The good news on the technology side: you do not need to build a trading platform. Most brokerages run on MetaTrader 5 and assemble the layers around it from specialised providers.

MT5 first: licence or white label

You can license MetaTrader 5 directly from MetaQuotes or rent a white label from an MT5 provider. A direct licence gives more control and more responsibility. A white label is usually faster to start. XFIV works on top of MT5 either way.

  • Direct MT5 licence from MetaQuotes
  • Or a white label from an MT5 provider
  • XFIV integrates once MT5 is in place

Liquidity

Liquidity and the bridge

A liquidity bridge connects your MT5 server to one or more liquidity providers and decides how orders are routed. You choose these partners yourself. XFIV does not provide liquidity or a bridge, and it does not touch order routing.

  • Chosen and contracted by the broker
  • Sits between MT5 and liquidity providers
  • Independent from the XFIV products

Client-facing software

Where XFIV fits: the software your clients and team use

Once MT5 and liquidity are in place, XFIV supplies the client portal, web terminal, copy trading and integration layer, all under your brand. You can start with one product and add the rest as the brokerage grows.

  • XFIV Portal for client onboarding and accounts
  • XFIV Trade and XFIV Copy for trading
  • XFIV Connect to tie it together

Order of work

A typical technology sequence for a new brokerage

  1. Settle structure and licensing

Work with legal advisers on jurisdiction and licence. This shapes which payment, KYC and liquidity partners will work with you.

  2. Secure MT5

Choose a direct MetaQuotes licence or an MT5 white label, and agree the server setup.

  3. Choose liquidity and a bridge

Contract liquidity providers and a bridge that fit your execution model.

  4. Pick payments and KYC providers

Select providers that accept your jurisdiction and client regions.

  5. Add the client-facing layer

Set up XFIV Connect, then brand XFIV Portal and XFIV Trade, and test everything in the sandbox.

  6. Pilot, then open

Start with a small group of clients, fix what they find, then open to the public.

FAQ

Common questions

What technology do I need to start a forex brokerage?

At minimum: a trading platform such as MT5, liquidity with a bridge, a client portal, a CRM or back office, payment providers and KYC checks. These layers have to be connected so client, account and funding data stay in sync.

Does XFIV provide an MT5 licence or a white label?

No. You license MT5 from MetaQuotes or rent a white label from an MT5 provider. XFIV builds the software layers that run on top of MT5, such as the client portal, web terminal and integration API.

Does XFIV provide liquidity or regulatory licences?

No. XFIV is software only. It does not provide liquidity, bridges, licences or compliance services. Brokers stay responsible for their regulatory obligations and should take independent legal advice.

Can I start with one XFIV product?

Yes. Many new brokerages start with XFIV Connect and XFIV Portal, then add XFIV Trade or XFIV Copy later. Each product runs on its own or with the others.

How long does it take to launch a brokerage?

It depends mostly on licensing, banking and liquidity, not on the client-facing software. We can give you a realistic plan for the XFIV part once we know your MT5 setup and the products you need.
